Accessibility Statement
Effective date: July 9, 2026 · Last reviewed: September 22, 2026
1. Conformance Status
Steadwell aims to conform to WCAG 2.1 Level AA. We are actively working to identify and remediate any barriers that prevent users with disabilities from accessing our platform. Our current implementation includes:
- Semantic HTML5 elements with appropriate landmark roles (header, main, nav, footer)
- ARIA labels and roles on all interactive controls, navigation, and dynamic content regions
- Skip-to-content links on all pages so keyboard users can bypass repeated navigation
- Logical heading hierarchy (H1 through H3) maintained throughout the application
- Visible focus indicators on all interactive elements for keyboard-only navigation
- Color contrast ratios meeting or exceeding 4.5:1 for normal text and 3:1 for large text
- Text alternatives for all meaningful images and icon-only controls
- Form inputs associated with descriptive labels and error messages
- No content that flashes more than three times per second
- prefers-reduced-motion media query honored — animations disabled for users who opt out
- Responsive layout supporting 400% browser zoom without horizontal scrolling
2. Technical Specifications
Steadwell relies on the following technologies for accessibility compliance:
- HTML5 with semantic structure and landmark elements
- CSS3 including custom properties, media queries, and focus-visible
- WAI-ARIA 1.2 roles, states, and properties
- JavaScript (React 19) with managed focus for dynamic content updates
3. Compatible Browsers and Assistive Technologies
Steadwell is designed and tested for compatibility with the following:
- Screen readers: NVDA with Firefox (Windows), JAWS with Chrome (Windows), VoiceOver with Safari (macOS and iOS), TalkBack with Chrome (Android)
- Browsers: Google Chrome (current), Mozilla Firefox (current), Apple Safari (current), Microsoft Edge (current)
- Keyboard navigation: Full keyboard access using Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, and arrow keys throughout all features
- Display adaptations: Windows High Contrast mode, browser zoom up to 400%, OS-level text scaling
4. Known Limitations
While we strive for full WCAG 2.1 AA conformance, the following areas are under active improvement:
- Some data visualizations in the Expenses tab may lack fully descriptive text alternatives. Summary data tables are being added as accessible equivalents.
- The address autocomplete field relies on Google Places API, a third-party service. Keyboard access is functional but may have minor screen reader announcement delays.
- User-uploaded PDF documents in the Document Vault are not screened for internal accessibility. We recommend uploading tagged, accessible PDFs.
- The interactive Calendar view is optimized for mouse and touch. All calendar functions remain fully accessible via the List view, which is keyboard and screen-reader friendly.
5. Assessment Approach
Steadwell assesses platform accessibility through the following ongoing methods:
- Automated testing using axe DevTools and Google Lighthouse during development
- Manual keyboard-only navigation testing for all features before release
- Screen reader testing with VoiceOver on Safari/iOS and NVDA on Firefox/Windows
- Review and remediation of all user-submitted accessibility feedback
