Quick answer: Centriq's consumer home-management app has shut down, and its own website now says so. As of October 2026, practical alternatives include HomeZada, Homer (named on Centriq's former site as its successor), HomeBinder if your inspector offers it, and Steadwell. If you did not export your data before the cutoff, assume it is gone and rebuild your list from receipts, nameplates and photos.

What happened to Centriq

Centriq was a home management app that let homeowners photograph product labels to pull up manuals, troubleshooting guides and recall notices, and store receipts, warranties and maintenance records. AlternativeTo's listing says it was developed by Centriq Technology, Inc., and that it moved from free to a paid subscription with a limited free tier in December 2020.

Centriq's former website now says the app "has shut down" and points to Homer as the successor app. It does not give a date in the text we could read. Two third-party comparison sites say the shutdown was January 31, 2026, with accounts and stored data deleted afterward, while one app review says early 2025. We could not find a dated official announcement, so treat the exact date as unconfirmed. The earlier version of this post said Centriq closed in 2023, which no source supports.

If you still have an export

If you downloaded a CSV before the shutdown, you have the core of your records. Third-party reports say the export covered item names, model and serial numbers, purchase dates and notes, but not photos, receipts or documents. Treat that list as a starting point and check it against your appliances.

If you did not export, the data is most likely gone. You can rebuild faster than you might expect:

  1. Walk the house. List each major appliance and system: HVAC, water heater, refrigerator, range, dishwasher, washer, dryer, roof, and so on.
  2. Photograph the nameplates. Brand, model and serial number are on a label, often inside a door or on the back. Our guide to finding an appliance serial number shows where.
  3. Gather paperwork. Search your email for receipts and warranty confirmations.
  4. Enter the high-value items first. Start with items that are expensive to replace or still under warranty.

What to look for in a replacement

Centriq's closure is a lesson in what to check before you rely on any app.

  • Export: can you download your data at any time, and does it include documents and photos?
  • Ongoing reminders: does it prompt you to act, or only store records?
  • Data entry: can you add items without typing every model number?
  • Safety recalls: does it check your products against recalls?
  • Ownership and staying power: is there a real company behind it, and what does it say if it ever closes?

Where Steadwell fits

Steadwell covers much of what Centriq users valued. On the free plan, you track unlimited assets and get warranty expiry alerts and federal safety recall alerts. On Plus and Pro, AI scan reads nameplates, receipts, bills and policies, and Smart Fill pulls specs from a model number.

It is not a one-to-one replacement. It does not promise to import a Centriq file, so plan to re-enter items, and it is not a home warranty, insurance, inspection or contractor-referral company. The home maintenance tracker handles the recurring tasks Centriq did not focus on. Steadwell also includes a spreadsheet data export on all plans.

How this varies by state and region

Appliance nameplates and federal recalls work the same in every state, so the rebuild steps above apply anywhere. What differs is the rest of your house.

  • Regional systems. A sump pump, well and septic system, boiler, wood stove, storm shutters, pool or evaporative cooler may belong on your list depending on where you live.
  • Seasonal upkeep. Freeze protection in cold states, humidity control in the Southeast and Gulf, and wildfire or hail prep in the West and Plains change which reminders matter. Pick an app where you can add your own tasks.
  • Insurance proof. If you live where claims are common (hurricane, wildfire, hail or tornado areas), photos and receipts help after a loss. Requirements differ by insurer and state, so ask your insurer or your state insurance department.

Protect yourself from the next shutdown

  • Keep your own copies of manuals, receipts and warranties in a folder you control.
  • Export regularly if the app allows it, and note the date.
  • Photograph nameplates and keep the pictures in your own storage.
  • Pick tools with a free exit. Prefer apps that let you download everything without a paywall.

Frequently asked questions

Is Centriq still operating?

No. Centriq's former website says the app has shut down. Third-party sources give the date as January 31, 2026 (some say early 2025), and we could not confirm it with an official announcement.

Can I still get my data from Centriq?

Probably not. Reports say users had a limited window to export CSV files before remaining data was deleted. If you have an old export, keep it.

What replaced Centriq?

Centriq's former website names Homer as the successor app. Check Homer's own site for current features and pricing before you move your records.

What is the best Centriq alternative?

It depends on what you used Centriq for. HomeZada is broader on inventory and finances, while Steadwell focuses on upkeep, warranties and recalls with AI scanning. Compare their free plans.

How do I rebuild my appliance list quickly?

Walk through the house photographing each nameplate, then enter brand, model and serial number. On Steadwell's Plus plan, AI scan and Smart Fill can read the nameplate and fill in details.
